Five-star smoke control for a four-star hotel

Initial Brief

Whilst the building has people sleeping in it and cooking carried out, as it is a hotel, it's classed as a commercial building and therefore has a simultaneous evacuation or 'all-out' policy. This means that it's required to have a firefighting core which needs protecting with smoke control, as well as any protection required for other corridors and stairways.

Outcome

Sertus worked closely with EllisMiller to integrate the stair smoke ventilation into a busy roofscape to provide smoke control for means of escape and fire fighting.
