Major smoke control for a major regeneration
1
Initial Brief

Since 2018, Sertus have been working with contractors on one of Croydon’s new super-high-rise developments. The Queen’s Quarter regeneration, also known as Taberner House, is a scheme delivering 513 new homes. The system Sertus have designed to suit the scheme is a mechanical smoke extract system.

2
Challenges

Whilst working to develop a commercially viable solution for the unique development, the key area of concern for Sertus was ensuring that shaft dampers specified on the project were compliant to EN12101-8.

Following workshop meetings between the main contractor, architect, fire engineers and M&E contractor, Sertus demonstrated how a compliant scheme would meet all regulatory demands and the desired architectural outcome, resulting in the selection of a compliant product.

3
Outcome

With the project still in progress, the perfect fire engineered solution has been developed to meet the needs of all stakeholders and the system is to be ingrained into the building structure to save lives of the future.
