1
Initial Brief

Since 2019, Sertus have been working closely with architects and contractors on one of Teesside University's new student accommodation developments to ensure that the smoke ventilation is designed and installed in accordance with Approved Document B.

2
Challenges

As part of the smoke ventilation design, Sertus were asked to provide a solution for providing access to the roof without having the need for a separate access hatch. This always provides a number of challenges, such as integrating access control into the smoke ventilation control system and, in this case, a fall arrest system.

3
Outcome of the project

We overcame this problem by installing access key switches to integrate the access function into the roof vents.

The project was handed over ahead of schedule with no snags, ready for the student intake of September 2020.
