Scape Student Accommodation

Scape required a comprehensive smoke ventilation system for their new student accommodation complex, consisting of 403 beds across two blocks and an additional 116-bed co-living block. The main contractor’s in-house M&E department, HG M&E Installation Services Limited, needed compliant, high-quality products to ensure the safety and comfort of the residents while adhering to stringent fire safety regulations. 

Sertus provided a tailored mechanical smoke ventilation solution to meet the specific needs of the Scape Student Accommodation. The products provided included Shaft Louvre Dampers, the Roof Single Leaf (RSL) vents, and the Sertus Pod Original smoke extraction pod. Here’s how the mechanical system works: 

• Stage 1: A signal is received from the fire alarm system. 
• Stage 2: The head of stair vent and shaft dampers on the floor of origin open, while dampers on other floors close if open for comfort ventilation or remain shut.
• Stage 3: The mechanical extract pod activates and begins extracting smoke from the protected zone, drawing fresh air down the stair core. 

This solution ensured rapid smoke extraction and enhanced air quality, meeting stringent safety standards and providing peace of mind for the residents.
