In 2019, Teesside University embarked on a mission to develop new student accommodation, requiring best-in-class natural smoke ventilation systems to ensure safety and compliance with fire safety regulations. The project was under a tight deadline to be ready for the student intake by September 2020. As the selected manufacturer, we collaborated closely with the smoke ventilation contractor and Teesside University to provide a reliable and efficient solution within the stipulated timeframe.
Sertus delivered an advanced natural smoke ventilation product for Cornell Quarter, utilising our Roof Single Leaf - Residential (RSL-R) vents. These vents were chosen for their exceptional performance and compliance with stringent safety standards, including BS EN12101-2 and Building Regulations Approved Document B and L.
Key features of the RSL-R vents include rapid opening to 160 degrees within 60 seconds, excellent thermal transmission values, and robust fire resistance (classification BROOF (t4) and B-s3, d0 to EN13501-1). They also contribute to a more controlled indoor environment by improving air tightness and sound insulation, enhancing overall comfort and security for residents.
