1
Initial Brief

Sertus were asked to work closely with the Ark M&E to develop the most efficient dual smoke and environmental system possible. Of particular importance to the client was to ensure that fully compliant products were used within the system, especially the EN 12101-8 smoke dampers.

2
Challenges

The main challenge faces on this project was the mobilisation time that was required by the client for Sertus to be on site, coupled with the fact that the design was not fully developed.

To ensure that the project programme was adhered to, Sertus applied Lean manufacturing principles and came up with some unique efficiencies, for example combining the smoke damper and the environmental damper in one housing to reduce installation time on site, and to reduce the amount of builders' work for the client.

3
Outcome

This project is a large phased scheme over 4 blocks so work will be continuing into 2021.

However, in just 4 months Sertus have completed the design, satisfied the requirements of the consultants and building control and will have successfully handed over 2 blocks.
