During the latter stages of the Moxy Hotel project, an unexpected challenge arose when a significant redesign of the building’s layout required a last-minute adjustment to the smoke ventilation system. The redesign involved multiple high-rise floors and complex internal structures, which complicated the integration of smoke control systems. Sertus was tasked with rapidly adapting the mechanical smoke ventilation solution to meet the revised layout while ensuring compliance with stringent fire safety regulations.
To address this challenge, Sertus delivered a flexible and comprehensive mechanical smoke ventilation system. The system’s design allowed for seamless integration with the revised building layout. When activated by a fire alarm, the system initiates by opening the head of the stair vent and the shaft dampers on the affected floor, while keeping other dampers closed to contain smoke. The Roof Mechanical Pod then kicks in, efficiently extracting smoke from the critical areas and drawing in fresh air through the stair core to facilitate safe evacuation. This adaptive approach ensured the system remained effective despite the redesign challenges.
