Shaft Louvre Damper – Residential (SLD-R), are multizone smoke control dampers and designed for use in mechanical smoke ventilation systems. They are typically installed into shafts to provide extract ventilation to corridors and into smoke control ducts in residential and commercial buildings.
They are certified to BS EN 12101-8:2011 and have a fire resistance class of EIS 120. They may be used in multi-compartmented smoke control ducts and have an integrity and insulation of 120 minutes. In addition they have been tested for reliability up to 10,000 cycles and may be used for environmental ventilation.
They are manufactured with a galvanised casing, and fire rated multi-blade louvres and operate by a drive open/drive close 24V AC/DC Belimo actuator. They are supplied with a removable white linear grill internally which provides a neat finish whilst enabling quick access for commissioning and service.

The SLD-R will always come with a casing, as this is integral to the product's design and testing.
Yes, the SLD-R can be utilised for ductwork installation, but it must be fixed to the rear of the SLD-R and installed into a standard opening. A short section of duct (50mm) is affixed to the rear of the unit as part of the test, which can also be used to connect to the ductwork.
The SLD-R is tested for use within a flexible shaft wall construction, but it is also suitable for installation in a rigid wall (such as concrete). The tested wall consists of a 100mm metal stud with two layers of 15mm plasterboard on each side, resulting in a total thickness of 160mm. It is essential that the overall wall thickness meets the 120-minute fire rating to comply with the certification.
If the grille is less than 200mm from the face of the damper, it should be tested in conjunction with the damper per EN1366-10. However, this is somewhat ambiguous for the SLD-R, as the testing house indicated it was unnecessary. We have successfully tested our new SLD with the same grille, confirming its compliance. If the grille is more than 200mm from the face of the damper, a fire rating test is no longer required.
While customers can install decorative panels, the free area specified in the data sheets includes the standard grille. If decorative grilles are used, they should not exceed 20% more of the area to remain compliant with the free area specifications outlined in our technical data sheets.
To determine the structural opening, add 8mm to the overall height and width specified in our technical data sheet.
The SLD-R is only certified for installation with the blades in a vertical plane.
When the blades are fully open, they do not protrude beyond the back of the damper; they open within the width of the damper.
